I think I'd call our old school 'otherworldly' all right. First lesson Wednesday, if I recall correctly, was 'Casualness'. Followed by 'Advanced Conversation'. Following afternoon cocktails I think it was double 'Poise'.
I met a boy from the 'low' school situated at the canal end of the town once. He informed me that he'd had 'Hammering' followed by 'Heavy Lifting' that morning. And when he'd finished his bangers and mash, he was rushing back to the classroom for 'Basic Masturbation'.
Curious thing about our old headmaster. He didn't possess a school bell. Kept all the boys named Bell in a cupboard, and at the end of break he'd release them onto the playground. Upon which, shrugging our shoulders we'd wend our way back to class complaining 'Oh well, there goes the bell.'
