Owen is the farmer around these parts. He is much loved. However his eyesight is not that good and he will not go and get it checked out. He has a pet lady-pig, purchased years ago, who had been trained to hunt out truffles. His land is blessed with valuable truffles buried amongst his tree roots. In the evenings he comes into town where he sits in our bar and tells us that the pig secretly eats his truffles. He says he knows she does this.
When the sun's gone down, the two of them sit in the parlour and listen to the radio, and at some point the pig will throw a glance up at him and then let him know all about the truffles through her sneakily-released breath.
That's when he puts his boots back on and comes into town to sit with us.
